Aims & Scope

Texila International Journal of Public Health (TIJPH) publishes Original Research, Review Articles, and Case Studies that address a broad spectrum of public health issues and highlight effective practices for improving community welfare. Established in 2013 and published quarterly, the journal provides a forum for advancing knowledge in epidemiology, disease prevention, health promotion, and healthcare delivery. It seeks to encourage interdisciplinary research that connects medical, social, environmental, and policy perspectives to tackle health challenges at local, national, and global levels.

The journal places special emphasis on the transmission, prevention, and control of infectious and communicable diseases, while also addressing the growing burden of non-communicable diseases. TIJPH aims to support evidence-based policymaking, innovative health interventions, and the development of sustainable healthcare systems. By providing a platform for public health practitioners, researchers, and policymakers, the journal fosters global collaboration, shares best practices, and contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in health.

Dr. Roy Rillera Marzo currently serves as Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Health Sciences and as the Associate Dean of Research and Development at Curtin University, Malaysia. Prior to this, he held the position of Department Chair/Head of Public Health and Head of Research at Management and Science University. His past roles also include Deputy Dean, Chairman of Medical Research and Ethics, and Program Head of the Master in Healthcare Management at Asia Metropolitan University, Malaysia. As an award-winning researcher renowned internationally for his excellence and innovation, Prof. Roy is a member of the editorial board of several international journals. He has published over 100 original research works and books in high-impact journals, covering a wide array of subjects such as epidemiology, health promotion, research methodology, communicable and non-communicable diseases, environmental health, nutrition, aging, quality of life, social and behavioral health, and healthcare management.

 

Prof. Roy also serves as the Vice-President of the International Association on Public Health, which focuses on empowering Public Health professionals worldwide. He is the CEO and Founder of the World Catalysts Research Network (WCRN), a globally recognized center that delivers cutting-edge research solutions. His contributions have significantly advanced rigorous and reproducible research in the fields of data, social, and health sciences. He is an executive board member of Fight Cancer Global (USA) and the International Coordinator for Education Against Tobacco in Southeast Asia. His recent research, encompassing mental health and quality of life during the COVID-19 pandemic, involved studies across 45 countries. Holding a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Doctor of Medicine from Saint Louis University, Philippines, Prof. Roy completed his Master of Public Health at the same institution, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He also earned a Commonwealth Executive Master in Business Administration in Malaysia, receiving the Outstanding Post-Graduate Thesis Award, and holds Post Graduate Certificates in Teaching Methodology in Malaysia and Distance Education from the University of the Philippines. Dr. Notion Gombe is a seasoned Field Epidemiologist with nearly two decades of transformative public health experience across the Southern Africa region. Holding a master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Zimbabwe and a PhD (Public Health) from the Central University of Nicaragua, Notion blends academic excellence with hands-on expertise in program design, implementation, and evaluation, surveillance system evaluation, outbreak investigation and response. Currently, he serves as the Regional Technical Coordinator for southern Africa at the African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET), where he leads regional operations and provides vital technical support to country teams.

A committed mentor, Notion has guided over 150 postgraduate students, including two recipients of the prestigious William Foege Award for outstanding presentations at the Epidemic Intelligence Service

conferences in the United States of America. An advocate for public health initiatives, Notion actively engages with governments and international partners, championing the implementation of critical health resolutions. His contributions to the field are underscored by his role in achieving the accreditation of the Zimbabwe Field Epidemiology Training Program and the Namibia Field Epidemiology Training Program by the Global Accrediting Body. With 139 publications in esteemed peer-reviewed journals, Notion has addressed pressing public health issues, including HIV/AIDS, COVID-19, communicable and non-communicable diseases. He has participated at several scientific conferences, serving as a presenter, moderator, and chairman. Notion’s commitment to advancing public health is matched only by his passion for building the next generation of epidemiologists.

Dr. J. K. Chaudhary graduated in Veterinary sciences with his Masters (2012) and Ph.D. (2015) in Biostatistics from the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI) in Uttar Pradesh, India. Dr. Chaudhary qualified ICAR-Junior Research Fellowship for Post-Graduate degree and DBT- INSPIRE Fellowship for Ph.D. degree. He started his career as Assistant Professor in College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry at Central Agricultural University in Mizoram, India in 2015 and presently working as Associate Professor in DUVASU, Mathura U.P. Dr. Olalekan Fagbola is a medical doctor and public health practitioner whose career has stretched across more than thirty years in the Caribbean, Nigeria and a few international assignments. In 2009, he received the Ministry of Health’s Medical Practitioner Individual of the Year Award, a recognition that meant a great deal to him because he emerged winner from across all Regional Health Authorities. During his years as Primary Care Physician II, two of the facilities under his supervision went on to win national Quality Awards. He holds a PhD in Public Health, a Postgraduate Diploma in Emergency Medicine, an MPH in Public Health and Tropical Medicine, and a Diploma in Clinical Tropical Medicine, along with his first medical degree.

At present he works as the Principal Medical and Health Officer with the Princes Town Regional Corporation, a role that keeps him involved in everyday clinical care as well as the wider community health programmes. Before taking up this post, he spent several years at a Petroleum Company as a Medical Officer, and earlier in his career he served in different capacities within the public health system – among them Acting County Medical Officer of Health and District Medical Officer. He also had a period of work in Sudan with CDC and UNICEF, where he was involved in immunization activities, polio-eradication efforts and general disease-surveillance support.

His research interests centre on infectious diseases, immunization, herbal and alternative therapies, and patterns of health behaviour. Some of his recent studies, especially those related to COVID-19, have been published in international journals and discussed in regional media.

Dr. Adam Dawria is an Assistant Professor of Public Health at the College of Applied Medical Sciences, King Khalid University, Saudi Arabia. He holds a PhD in Epidemiology from Shendi University and a Master of Medical Science in Public Health from the University of Malaya. His research focuses on communicable diseases, vaccine-preventable illnesses, and outbreak surveillance. Dr. Dawria has served as an international consultant with WHO and CDC, contributing to polio eradication and Ebola response efforts in Africa.  Professor Nnodimele Atulomah is a Professor of Public Health with over twenty-five years of university teaching experience. He has served as the Dean of the School of Allied Health Sciences at Babcock University, Nigeria. His academic and research contributions include more than 45 peer-reviewed publications in the field of public health. He currently serves as an Academic Editor for PLoS Global Public Health, with an editorial record of 36 published articles and 12 completed reviews. In addition, he has reviewed 11 articles for BMC Public Health. He has supervised and co-supervised several doctoral and Master of Public Health students, contributing significantly to the development of public health education and research.

 Professor Dr Ibrahim El-Bayoumy holds bachelor of medicine and surgery (Tanta faculty of medicine-Egypt,1989),then he earned his master degree in public health, preventive and social medicine (Tanta faculty of medicine-Egypt1996),and MD, PhD in public health ,preventive and social medicine 2003 from Tanta faculty of medicine-Egypt and McGill faculty of medicine –Montreal -Canada in division of clinical epidemiology in Royal Victoria hospital  through double channel system as scholarship from ministry of education-Egypt. He is Full professor of public health and community medicine in Tanta faculty of medicine-Egypt since November 2016. Now he is working in ministry of health in Kuwait as consultant of Public Health and Preventive Medicine.

Dr El Bayoumy has published many research works in international journals, he is interested in research in epidemiology of infectious diseases like HIV, tuberculosis, brucellosis and infectious hepatitis, he is interested in epidemiology of chronic diseases like diabetes mellitus and its health economics, obesity and cancer and pharmacoepidemiology. He is a reviewer of many national and international journals.

He has obtained post-graduate Master degree is diabetes care and education-Dundee faculty of medicine-Scotland –UK October 2015.

He was invited speaker in many international conferences in China, South Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Malysia, Dubai, Paris France and USA.

 Dr Olaiya Paul Abiodun is a public health professional and epidemiologist with extensive experience in emergency response and health system strengthening. He has over twelve years of professional experience, particularly in case investigation and contact tracing. Dr. Abiodun significantly flattened the COVID-19 curve in Nigeria by coordinating efforts to transport COVID-19 samples and implementing technology to track future pandemics . He has worked across various regions in Africa and aims to improve maternal health and promote health insurance in Nigeria . Additionally, he holds multiple degrees, including a Ph.D. and an MBA,  with over 70 scientific publications and is currently a Technical Officer at the World Health Organization (WHO). He is a Visiting Prof, and co-authored two books.

Olaiya Paul Abiodun is an experienced epidemiologist and public health professional with over 12 years in the field. He currently serves as a Technical Officer at the World Health Organization. His expertise includes case investigation, contact tracing, and emergency response, particularly demonstrated during the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria. Dr. Abiodun holds multiple advanced degrees and has worked across various African regions, focusing on improving maternal health and promoting health insurance.

She is an experienced Immunobiologist with extensive practical research experience in Immunology, Microbiology, Immunogenetics, Genomics, and Molecular Biology. Her doctoral and postdoctoral research focused on the immunogenetic aspects of tuberculosis and the innate immune response to oncolytic viral vectors. As a Principal Scientist, her research emphasized the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying corneal inflammation. She has also investigated bacterial resistance and persistence mechanisms, microRNA expression profiles, and comparative bacterial genomics.

She has successfully completed several extramural and intramural research projects and has published her findings in reputed peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Prof. Janvier Gasana, MD, MPH, PhD, Professor / Researcher / Consultant / OSH Capacity Building Expert who is currently Founder and CEO of GAPCI (Global Applied Prevention Center Inc.) in South Florida, USA.

Prof Gasana grew up, studied and practiced medicine in Rwanda. He was the chair of the Dept. of Environmental & Occupational Health (EOH) (for 4 years). He then moved to Chicago where he earned both Master and PhD degrees in EOH at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) School of Public Health (in 7 years).

He joined Florida International University (FIU) in Miami where he was instrumental (as one-man army) in establishing from scratch an EOH Dept (in his 20-year tenure at FIU) and Kuwait University (KU) where he served as the MPH program director and founding chair of the EOH Dept. (in his 8-year tenure at KU).

His research explores the impact of both occupational and environmental settings on health and safety through his occupational safety and health (OSH) workshops in Kuwait, community-based childhood lead poisoning pilot studies in Miami and Kuwait, and asthma trigger studies in Miami and his consulting work with The World Bank and the UK DFID (Department For International Development) in DR Congo (on Mining) and USAID in Haiti (on OSH) and Ethiopia (on Waterborne Diseases).

In his recent consulting work in Qatar through WHO, he put together a syllabus for an Occupational & Environmental Medicine workshop training using the concepts of 1) Training of the Trainers (ToT) that is promoted by US CDC and 2) OSH Education and Training of Underserved Populations of Workers using CHW (Community Health Workers) among other successfully used participatory methods by OSH trainees through a UIC workshop that was co-sponsored by OSHA and NIOSH.

 Dr. Ndumiso Tshuma is a seasoned public health professional, researcher, and civil society leader with extensive expertise in HIV, TB, and STI prevention, care, and advocacy. As Director of Best Health Solutions (BHS), he leads innovative, multisectoral initiatives that strengthen health systems, empower communities, and advance evidence-based programming across South Africa.

He serves as Research Sector Leader within SANAC’s Civil Society Forum (CSF) in Mpumalanga, Co-Chair of the Resource Mobilisation Committee in Mpumalanga, and Research Associate with University of Limpopo, where he integrates behavioural insights, implementation science, and community-led approaches into national and provincial strategies. Dr. Tshuma is also a Co-Facilitator of the C20 Science, Research & Innovation Working Group, amplifying South Africa’s voice in global health policy platforms.

Publications: Authored and co-authored 100+ peer-reviewed articles, policy briefs, and technical reports, including in high-impact journals such as International Journal of Public Health and Health Promotion International. He has also pioneered digital health innovations, including the Thando Chatbot for AYP and key populations, and developed sustainability-focused projects in Agribusiness. A passionate advocate for inclusivity and resilience, he champions capacity-building for civil society organisations, integration of behavioural insights into policy, and the co-creation of community-driven solutions to accelerate progress against HIV, TB, GBV, and broader health system challenges.
