Abstract:

This study examined the effect of monetary incentives on employee motivation in selected manufacturing firms in Kano State, Nigeria. Monetary incentives such as salaries, bonuses, allowances, and financial benefits are widely used to influence employee performance and organizational outcomes. A quantitative cross-sectional survey design was adopted, and data was collected from 143 employees using structured questionnaires. Reliability testing yielded a Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of 0.792, indicating good internal consistency of the instrument. Regression analysis revealed that monetary incentives have a significant positive effect on employee motivation (R² = 0.552), with bonuses and allowances emerging as the strongest predictors. The findings highlight the importance of performance-based financial reward systems in enhancing employee motivation and sustaining productivity in the manufacturing sector. The study recommends that organizations adopt transparent, performance-linked incentive structures to improve employee commitment and organizational effectiveness.
