Guidelines for Article Quality – For Reviewers & Editors

Editors and reviewers should assess submitted manuscripts based on the following criteria to ensure scientific quality, ethical integrity, and relevance.

  1. Originality
    The manuscript should present novel findings, original insights, or a meaningful contribution to existing knowledge.
    Authors must not include retracted authors or works inappropriately.
    Verification of retracted authors and articles should be conducted using Crossref Retraction Watch metadata:

  2. Relevance
    The topic must align with the journal’s scope, aims, and readership.
    The study should address a relevant problem or research gap within the field.
  3. Clear Research Question
    The research objective, hypothesis, or question should be clearly stated, well defined, and adequately justified.
  4. Methodological Soundness
    The study design, methods, and procedures must be appropriate, rigorous, and scientifically valid for the research question.
  5. Sample Size Justification
    The sample size should be adequate and supported by justification (e.g., power analysis, prior studies, or methodological rationale).
  6. Statistical Validity
    Statistical analyses should be appropriate, correctly applied, and sufficiently described to allow verification and reproducibility.
  7. Data Transparency
    Data sources, datasets, methodologies, and procedures should be clearly described to enable replication or validation of results.
  8. Ethical Compliance
    Manuscripts involving human or animal subjects must include:
    Institutional Review Board (IRB) / Ethics Committee approval
    Informed consent statements (where applicable)
    Conflict of interest disclosures
  9. Plagiarism Check
    The similarity index must be within acceptable limits (e.g., ≤ 20%), excluding references and appropriately quoted content.
    Any overlap must be justified and properly cited.
  10. Structure & Organization
    The manuscript should follow a logical and standard structure, including:
    – Abstract
    – Introduction
    – Materials and Methods
    – Results
    – Discussion
    – Conclusion
  11. Clarity of Writing
    The content should be clear, concise, coherent, and free from unnecessary jargon.
    Language quality should meet academic publishing standards.
  12. Figures & Tables
    Figures and tables must be accurate, clearly labeled, properly referenced, and add value to the interpretation of results.
  13. References & Citations
    References must be:
    Relevant and up to date
    Properly formatted according to journal style
    Free of retracted or withdrawn articles, unless explicitly acknowledged and scientifically justified

  14. Discussion & Limitations
    Results should be interpreted objectively.
    Study limitations must be clearly acknowledged.
    Future research directions should be suggested where appropriate.
  15. Contribution & Impact
    The manuscript should demonstrate significant contribution to the field and merit inclusion in the scientific record.
